The current trend in strength and conditioning is to go "OLD SCHOOL". What exactly is old School Training? Well It's simple really. Using routines from a time when machines were not around. Barbells ,dumbells, and a small amount of benches were all gyms were equipped with. All workouts included picking the barbell up off of the floor and performing a few reps for alot of sets on a few basic exercises. Bodybuilders, physical culturists, weightlifters, and athletes all trained the same way ( No great specialization) and depending on how they ate, all looked the same athletic and strong. The common factor was hard work, frequency of training, over a period of time. Old Schoolers ate food not so many pills and powders. The diet consisted of copious amounts of milk, eggs, lean meat, fruits and vegetables. GPP was not only unheard of but not needed as most trainees held down jobs that required some labor. Workouts were for the most part whole body always consisting of a press, a squat, a pulling exercise and some bodyweight movements (calisthenics). Old Schoolers realized the muscles of the body worked together athletically and not separately. Each muscle worked in a flow like manner, this system of movement required training the muscles in an athletic manner. Workouts were easy to write. They were simple and direct easy to execute consisting of a few productive exercises rather than a manifesto that required a college degree to interpret. NO OVER THINKING just "MAN VS BARBELL"
